The Best Underrated Wine Country in the U.S.
April 18, 2016
Wine on the lips, and gorgeous views for miles… sounds like a summer to be enjoyed! If you’re planning on road-tripping across the United States and can’t be without wine, you should plan to hit a few of these locations on your vacation. While they’re not the ‘traditional’ spots in the United States that are known for wine, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the beautiful landscapes and the superb wine you can find at these spots.
Welcome to The Far Country, where the landscapes are cluttered with rock formations and beautiful blue skies. In this arid climate, you’ll need to make some pit stops, and where better than a winery where you can experience the flavors of the desert.
Castle Creek Winery in Moab boasts palatable white and red wines for any tasting. There are daily wine tastings, too, so you don’t have to worry about arriving on a certain day in Moab to make it for a wine tasting. According to their website, every bottle is filled, labeled and boxed by hand on site! If you’re feeling adventurous, stay the night to get your fill of wine before you head out. Castle Creek Winery is an award-winning winery, too!
Let’s all put our toes in the water with a wine in our hand when visiting Delaware this beach season. Rehoboth is one of the most beautiful beaches - it’s clean, safe, and parking isn’t a pain - but best of all, there’s an award-winning winery only a stone’s throw away from the ocean waves.
Nassau Valley Vineyards is family-owned and operated, and they have smooth wines suitable for anyone in your party as long as they are over 21. The tasting bar can accommodate roughly 10 people, and the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable. Parking at this winery is free, so bring out your friends for a good time!
Finger Lakes Region, New York
All we can say is “Bring on the wine!” With over 11,000 acres of vineyards, the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York is a must-visit destination for any wine lover.
Part of what makes wine tasting so much fun is experiencing the surroundings. Many of the vineyards in the area have great wine trails you can join, or if you’re feeling more like kicking back with your wine, the lake views will call to you. Rent a cabin for a few days and experience what this hidden region has to offer. If you’re a lover of the outdoors, you’ll enjoy all of the options open to you. Go on a mountain biking excursion, venture out on a hiking trail, or try your hand at water sports.
Add Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellar, Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery and Montezuma Winery all to your list. There are many more to choose from, so you won’t feel limited!
Get out of your own backyard a bit this summer to explore all of the sites out there! Have another referral for a wine hidden gem? Let us know! We’d love to feature it.
