April's Oddity: Why You Need to Try Chareau Today
April 22, 2016
You’re the black sheep of your family, the one who is the hippie, the pagan who loves the outdoors and sunshine. You are a bit rebellious and love a good adventure. And just like your life, your cocktails need to be interesting.
Chareau is at the top of our list for one of the most unusual liqueurs that actually lives up to the hype. Trends come and go, but Chareau is here to stay.
First off, the founder sounds like a guy we’d actually want to be friends with. Forget the retired Dos XX man - Kurt Charron seems like a down-to-earth guy who experimented with ingredients, found a kick-butt blend of items, and wants to share it with the world. He even named the liqueur after his great-grandparents, Arthur Emile Charron and Florence Marie Favreau…how cool is that?
So why do we love Chareau?
It Tastes Clean and Refreshing
If you could drink in sunshine and fresh air, it would taste like Chareau. If you like liqueurs that are clean-tasting, light and airy, and have a good mouth feel, you’ll love Chareau. We gave it a taste before mixing it with anything. It didn’t disappoint.
Literally the only ingredients in Chareau are as follows:
Eau de vie (a type of fruit beverage distilled from fruit other than grapes)
Clean, cool and refreshing. Your summer cocktails will never be the same.
2. It Supports Local Farmers
Charron Favreau, the maker of Chareau, is based in Camarillo, California, which is where you can find all of the above ingredients growing freely in fields. California farmers grow these ingredients, and when possible, Chareau is made with locally-sourced products that are sometimes even organic. Aloe vera thrives in California’s rich soil. Full sun and well drained soil make California a perfect location for muskmelon to grow.
Chareau is made in small batches, and all of the farms where ingredients are grown for Charreau are within a one-day drive from their facility.
3. It Is a Versatile Liqueur
Drink it by itself. Drink it with something. Chareau isn’t picky. Right on the Chareau website, you’ll find a list of cocktails you can create with this liqueur. They’re all beauties to behold for both the eyes and the palate, so you can serve them up for even the fanciest of dinner parties. No matter whether you fancy gin, tequila or vodka, they’ll all embrace Chareau with open arms.
While Chareau is currently not available in Pennsylvania, the owner does have plans to expand into more states this year. You can purchase a bottle online at a variety of locations, including this one. Let us know what you think if you give this aloe vera liqueur a whirl!
